Dr Akshaya K M

Dr Akshaya Dr Akshaya K M Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Community Medicine from M S Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore (Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka), India and currently working as Additional Professor in Community Medicine at Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, India. I have been working in collaboration with state and district government officials in the state of Karnataka to strengthen the health systems in a variety of levels ranging from leadership to support. I am involved in conducting community and hospital based clinical/public health research in both quantitative and qualitative methods with a special focus on Tuberculosis, Tobacco, Maternal and Child health, Non-communicable diseases, Infection control.

Contribution to research: I have been a part of 11 extramural and intramural projects as principal/ co-investigator and have guided five MD dissertations. I have authored more than 30 publications in peer reviewed national/ international journals and have mentored researchers in state and national level operational research courses. I have been on the reviewers list of more than ten journals.

Bindumol.V.C Dr. Bindumol. V.C. LLM. Ph.D is an Associate Professor in Law at Government Law College, Ernakulam, Kerala. She was awarded Ph.D in Law on the topic ‘Professional responsibility and legal accountability with reference to medical profession’ from the Department of Law University of Kerala in 2008.She auhtored a book on Medical law published by Allahabad law Agency in 2015.Second edition published in2021 .Centre for Medical Law was established in 2015 by her at Government Law College Ernakulam to create a conducive atmosphere for the research and in depth understanding of more nuanced issues where law and medicine converge.She had completed PGDMLE from NLSIU,Bangalore. She has many publications in the various law journals to her credit and has presented papers on various national and International seminars. She is having 22 years of teaching experiences at various government Law Colleges in Kerala.

Karishma Navalkar

Karishma Navalkar Karishma Navalkar is a native of Mumbai and completed her graduation in Pharmacy from HK College of Pharmacy, Mumbai in 2012. She then applied for Masters in Public Health Administration from Tata Institute of Social Sciences and was part of 2013-2015 batch.

During her post – graduation, she interned with rural and urban health NGOs and public health systems and got placed in NRHM – Gujarat. She worked there for 9 months before moving back to Mumbai and secured a job in CSR firm. She joined SNEHA (Society for Nutrition, Education and Health Action) in 2016 as Monitoring Evaluation and Research Coordinator for one of their public health projects based out of Dharavi, Mumbai.

Karishma also has an interest in designing public health programs and has had the opportunity to support designing public health programs which focused on maternal and child health, family planning, early childhood development, strengthening public health systems and reduction of violence against women and children. She was actively involved in data monitoring of the Dharavi Vaccination drive during COVID-19 which was in conjunction with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Jaslo hospital & Citibank. She has also supervised large scale household health surveys in SNEHA’s intervention areas.

She has a keen interest in learning and has a grounded yet innovative approach to her work. She believes in achieving the perfect work-life balance and working with a kind yet passionate lens.

I believe it is the prime role of a researcher to protect the study participant’s rights, dignity, and safety. Despite various guidelines on conducting research on human participants, this prime role has been highly compromised in this era. I am interested in enhancing myself more in this aspect to carry out my research work in a more ethical manner and I believe this program will help me to achieve the same. Dr. Onochie Ike Okoye

Dr. Onochie Ike Okoye Dr. Onochie Ike Okoye is a Professor in Ophthalmology/Consultant Ophthalmologist with the University of Nigeria and the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital(UNTH), Ituku-Ozalla ,Nigeria respectively . He was till June 2017 a Senior Fellow at the MacLean Centre for Clinical Medical Ethics at the University of Chicago, and an instructor of the ‘’Fundamentals of Clinical Research’’ Course of the Centre for Global Health in the University of Chicago. He is also an active member of the UNTH Health Research Ethics Committee , and a key faculty in the MSc Bioethics degree program of the University of Nigeria. Dr Okoye is currently completing a fellowship in ocular genetics at the University of Rochester, New York. His current research interests in bioethics lie in the following: the research ethics review process; ethics of clinical trials in the developing world; responsible conduct of research; international collaborative research; human tissue banking issues ; and ethics of genetic testing.

Dr Padmavathi

Dr Padmavathi Dr Padmavathi, is a Community Medicine specialist and a Senior Resident at the ESIC Medical College and PGIMSR, Chennai. She has completed her M.B.B.S from MAPIMS, Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu and M.D. Community Medicine from IGMCRI, Puducherry. She is also a DNB (Community Medicine) holder of the National Board of Examinations of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. As a scientist, she experienced in rural health research. She facilitated various research activities under the MRHRU, Tirunelveli platform, linked with Tirunelveli Medical College and mentored by ICMR-NIE, Chennai. She has completed a Research Fellowship in Public Health and Adolescence funded by MAMTA: HIMC, New Delhi, and her field of interest is adolescents’ health. She received training in Good Clinical Practices and Advanced Vaccinology courses. As a community physician, she is passionate about the community’s well-being by translating research into policy changes.

Dr Parandhaman A

Dr Parandhaman A Dr Parandhaman A, is the Founder and Director of Pugazh Centre for Genetic Counseling, Tirupattur. He got his PhD from The Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Tamil Nadu and European Advanced Postgraduate Course in Classical and Molecular Cytogenetics. He is sharing knowledge and skills to support the needy in community level in the field of Genetics for preventing disability.

He has 14years of experience in Conventional and Molecular cytogenetics. He was a part of several educational awareness and training programs; several research projects; presented several papers in national and international conferences and has published articles in peer reviewed journals.

He attended several training programs in Molecular Cytogenetics, Community Genetics, Scientific Writing, Ethical guidelines, Fetal Medicine and Research Methodology and Biostatistics. He was the first person to receive fellowship award from European Cytogenetic Association for the year 2019.

He is a Life member for the following Professional Bodies- Society for Indian Academy of Medical Genetics, Indian Society of Human Genetics.

Dr. Praveen Suthar Dr. Praveen Suthar is an enthusiastic and responsible public health specialist with background in alternative medicine (BHMS) having a passion in humanity work. He has cultivated more than 9 years of experience in the public health system with a dedicated work ethics. He is working as an Assistant Professor at Parul Institute of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, Parul University, Vadodara. He has worked on national AIDS control programmes (elimination of mother to child transmission of HIV and syphilis (EMTCT); subhiksha plus (interventions among incarcerated populations); blended training for HIV elimination (integrated service delivery for high risk and bridge populations and systems strengthening and capacity building of health service providers) supported by global fund for AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria (GFATM)) for two years in Gujarat, Dadara Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu. He has earlier worked with School of Public Health, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jodhpur as a Research Coordinator and he has contributed in “National clinical registry of covid-19 in India”, and multidisciplinary research projects. Currently enrolled as a Master’s in Research Ethics program and intend to enroll in a interdisciplinary PhD program in the near future. My interests are women’s health (including transgender persons), reproductive health and maternal health, with a rights based focus and community approach.


Shaibya Saldanha

Shaibya Saldanha Shaibya Saldanha I completed my MBBS and MD(OBG) from Grant medical college in Mumbai in 1993. I worked for 8 yrs as a medical teacher and consultant in St. Johns Medical college, Bangalore where I was introduced to the structured concept of ethics in medical practice.

I worked as a private practitioner in Bangalore for 22 yrs, while working in areas of sexuality education, LGBTQIA+ rights and intersection of persons living with disability and medical practice. Working in an NGO, Enfold trust I learnt about public health and ethics, especially in areas involving POCSO act, Domestic violence and Criminal amendment acts.

Since one year, I have been working as training consultant to the govt of Meghalaya in the area of health care service reforms, rural maternal and infant health, and the roll out of comprehensive primary health care in the state.

I wish to understand how the public health perspective impacts our choices at work, and the intersection between state -provided universal health care and medical ethics to prevent any violation of ethical conduct in the process of my work.

Shelley Saha Sinha

Shelley Saha Sinha Shelley Saha Sinha is an independent researcher with more than 20 years of experience in public health research. Her expertise is in evidence-based social research and policy analysis. She has authored and coauthored books on abortion research, methodological issues and had published research papers on issues concerning public health in reputed journals. Ms Saha Sinha was also involved in advocating livelihood issues of tribal people through stakeholder engagament. She has worked with right-based NGOs in various capacities. At present she is pursuing PhD from Visva Bharati University, Shantiniketan. She has a Master’s Degree from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai.

Sre Ratha

Sre Ratha Sre Ratha is a PhD student at the Manipal Centre for Humanities. Her thesis is an examination of the policies, challenges and support networks among women in STEM academia in India. She is an avid reader and a staunch feminist. She is also interested in studying social movements and partaking in activism and social justice. She has also developed a keen interest in the intersections of gender with public health and public policy. She hopes to add to feminist scholarship and discourse through her doctoral studies and wants to work in the policy sector wiring feminist policies for women and gender and sexual minorities post the completion of her PhD.

Dr Stephen Muhudhia Ombok

Dr Stephen Muhudhia Ombok Dr Stephen Muhudhia Ombok is a medical doctor, specialised in paediatrics and child health as well as bioethics. He has qualifications in Bioethics and Health Law. He has a Master’s degree in Bioethics and Health Law from Witwatersrand University in Johannesburg, South Africa, a Post Graduate Diploma in Biomedical Ethics, from the Centre for Bioethics and Culture of the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplant in Karachi, Pakistan. He also has additional training by UNESCO in teaching of Bioethics and he is a UNESCO certified teacher of ethics. He undertook a research fellowship at the Center for Bioethics and Human Dignity of the Trinity International University in Illinois, USA, where he studied clinical and research ethical issues and was accorded recognition as the Bioethics Fellow of the Year, 2018.

Dr Muhudhia is an adjunct professor of Bioethics at Trinity International University and a Co- Director of the Trinity International University Africa Bioethics Initiative program. He is a partime lecturer in bioethics at Kabarak University in Kenya. In addition, he serves as faculty on the CBEC-KEMRI Bioethics Training Initiative, an NIH-funded program for capacity building in the fields of Research Ethics, Clinical Ethics, Public Health Ethics, Research methodology and IRB administration.

Dr Muhudhia is a member of the Scientific, Ethics and Research Unit (SERU) of the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI). He has served for two years on the IRB of Gertrude’s Institute of Child Health and Research in Nairobi, Kenya. Dr Muhudhia is a member of the Bioethics Society of Kenya

Subbulakshmy Natarajan

Subbulakshmy Natarajan Subbulakshmy Natarajan is an Adjunct Faculty for Public Health Foundation of India and Visitng professor at TINS-VHS, and Research Consultant, Neuroscience India group (NSIG). She completed her medical graduation from Christian Medical College, Vellore followed by internship, post which she was dedicated to semi-urban/rural practice for 10 years. She then entered the Community Health-based Neurology Departments at Public Health Centre, Chennai, and later at The Institute of Neurological Sciences, Voluntary Health Services Multispecialty Hospital (TINS-VHS), Chennai. Clinical Neurology and Allied research have held her interest for over 40 years. From 2008-09, she was the Neurology Research Consultant at National Brain Research Centre (NBRC) Manesar, NCR, where she initiated the bedside end of the Translational Research Unit, ran the weekly 3-day Neurology OP at the Civil Hospital, Gurgaon, and had regular scientific interaction with the basic research scientists in their research projects at NBRC. Back in TINS-VHS from 2010-2015 as Head of Academics and Research, she mentored 5 PhD scholars of the department, which is affiliated to the Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai. She was member of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) of VHS hospital. She was selected as the Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 2014. She was the Chairperson of the IRB, IIT-Madras, Chennai from 2015-18. In a long and distinguished career, Pof. Natarajan has straddled diverse worlds – Community and Public Health, Neurology and Neurosciences, Aesthetics, Art and Music. Subbulakshmy Natarajan Sunanda Das. I am twenty –six(26) years old. I have completed my M.Phil (Full time/ regular)with the specialization in gender and society from Indira Gandhi National Open University, Head Quarter ,New Delhi, department School Of Social Sciences(SOSS) and M.A from University of North Bengal, department of Sociology. I am currently pursuing Ph.D on “Life of female workers in tea gardens: a case of North Bengal” from TATA INSTITUTE OF SOCIAL SCIENCES.I have previously worked as guest lecturer at Indian Institute of Legal Studies,Siliguri(West Bengal). Besides Ph.D. , now I am working as Assistant Professor at Indian Institute of Legal Studies, Cooch Behar(West Bengal) where I have mostly taught in the areas of sociological theory, rural sociology, industrial sociology.

I am a good critical thinker, experimental in nature; love to explore new theories, besides do compare with our everyday social phenomena. Supriya Subramani Supriya Subramani. M.A., Ph.D I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute of Biomedical Ethics and History of Medicine, University of Zurich. My research interests lie at the intersection of morality, behaviour and healthcare encounter. My current working projects engages with moral experiences, emotions and ethical concepts such as respect and justice within bioethics literature. Furthermore, I am interested in qualitative inquiry into moral subjectivities of individuals and moral epistemological inquiries within healthcare ethics research.
